Most people shipping to Hong Kong for the first time want one answer: how much will it cost? This guide covers every rate, how weight is calculated, and the extra fees you might run into, so you can price a shipment before you leave home.
How much does it cost to ship from Canada to Hong Kong? (2026 rates)
These are Flashline’s rates to Hong Kong via the SF Express official line. All prices are in Canadian dollars (CAD).
| Type | Rate | Transit time | Good for |
|---|---|---|---|
| Parcel: SF Standard Line | $15 for the first 2 lb, then +$4.9 per lb | 3–5 working days after dispatch (ships Fridays) | Clothing, daily items: the more economical option |
| Parcel: SF Express Line | $18 for the first 2 lb, then +$5.5 per lb | 3–5 working days after dispatch (ships Mon, Wed, Fri) | Urgent items; also used for documents |
| Document | $45 up to 2 lb, then +$3 per lb | 3–5 business days | Passports, IDs, contracts |
| Luggage (30 lb and up) | $3.8–$4.9 per lb | 4–8 days | Moving, students’ belongings |
Example: how much to ship a 10 lb box of clothes to Hong Kong?
A 10 lb box on the Standard Line costs $15 for the first 2 lb plus 8 lb × $4.9 = $39.2, so the total is $54.2 CAD. On the Express Line it is $18 + 8 lb × $5.5 = $62 CAD. Home pickup is extra: for example, +$10 in Markham for a parcel under 20 lb, which makes $64.2 on the Standard Line. Why is my light box so expensive? Volumetric weight explained
Carriers charge for the space a box takes up as well as its weight, because aircraft space is limited. A large box of duvets may be light but still fills a lot of cargo room. Shipping cost is based on whichever is higher: the actual weight or the volumetric weight.
For example, a 20 × 16 × 12 inch box has a volumetric weight of 20 × 16 × 12 ÷ 139 ≈ 27.6 lb. If it holds duvets weighing only 8 lb, you are still billed for 27.6 lb.
How to keep the cost down
- Use a box that fits. Avoid a large box for a small amount of items, and leave as little empty space as possible.
- Roll clothes instead of folding them to compress volume.
- Use vacuum bags for duvets and down jackets.
- Not sure? Bring it to the store and we will measure it and suggest the cheapest way to pack.
Are there hidden fees when shipping to Hong Kong?
The quote covers the shipping itself. The only possible extras are below, and we tell you about them upfront:
| Item | Cost | Notes |
|---|---|---|
| Home pickup | $5–$15, or free for some areas over 40 lb | By area and weight; see the pickup fee table below |
| Cardboard box | $1–$3 | Bring your own if you prefer; price depends on size |
| Extra reinforced packing | $3 | Recommended for fragile items |
| Insurance (optional) | 2.5% of declared value | Up to $50,000 CAD coverage |
Home pickup fees (added on top of shipping)
Pickup fees are charged per address, per pickup, in CAD. Weight tiers use billed weight, which is the higher of actual and volumetric weight; 20 lb and 40 lb both fall in the middle tier.
| Pickup area | Parcel under 20 lb | Parcel 20–40 lb | Parcel over 40 lb | Document |

Shipping luggage to Hong Kong: how is 30 lb+ priced?
If you are moving, a student heading home, or sending a lot of personal belongings after a long stay, the luggage line is usually much cheaper than sending separate parcels. Luggage pricing starts at 30 lb and the per-pound rate drops as total weight rises, ranging from $3.8 to $4.9 per lb. There is also no box fee or packing fee, so you can bring your suitcase as it is. See our Canada to Hong Kong service page for the full weight tiers.
Important: SF Express Hong Kong route changes (September 2025)
After repeated cases of prohibited goods being sent to Hong Kong by courier, SF International adjusted its Hong Kong route. From September 12, 2025:
- Senders may need to upload a driver’s licence or other ID to the SF system for customs clearance. The data is permanently deleted within 24 hours of delivery.
- Departure days depend on the line: the Express Line ships Monday, Wednesday and Friday, and the Standard Line ships on Fridays.
This is SF International’s official policy for all agents, not a Flashline-specific rule. If you have questions about the ID upload, message us on WhatsApp.
What can’t you ship to Hong Kong?
Items Hong Kong customs prohibits include prescription and over-the-counter medicine, cannabis and all drugs, weapons (including toy guns), American ginseng, any dairy products, and anything containing alcohol. If you are unsure, ask before you ship: a parcel held by customs costs you the shipping fee and can delay the whole shipment.
