What counts as a document?

The $45 document rate is for paper documents: letters, forms, certificates, application packages and similar paperwork. Typical examples our customers send to Hong Kong include signed forms for banks or government offices, school records, and fingerprint cards for police clearance applications.

Not sure if your item counts as a document? Items with thickness, hard cases or non-paper contents may be treated as a parcel instead. Message us on WhatsApp before you drop off and we will confirm which rate applies.

How long does it take to ship documents to Hong Kong?

Documents travel on SF Express Fast Line, which departs from Flashline on Mondays, Wednesdays and Fridays. Delivery in Hong Kong takes about 3–5 business days after the shipment departs. So an envelope handed in before a Monday departure typically reaches Hong Kong later that same week or early the following week.

If you have a deadline, such as a bank appointment or a government submission, count backwards from the departure day rather than the drop-off day, and leave a buffer for Hong Kong public holidays.

Home pickup for documents in the GTA

You can drop documents at our Markham storefront, or ask for home pickup. Pickup is added on top of the $45 shipping fee, per address per pickup, and it only covers certain Greater Toronto Area zones:

Scarborough south of Hwy 401, North York (including Yonge & Eglinton)+$10

Boundary-road addresses should ask first. The full table is on our Canada to Hong Kong shipping page, and our GTA home pickup guide explains the zones in more detail.

Should you insure a document shipment?

SF Express basic compensation without insurance is up to USD $100. Optional SF insurance costs 2.5% of the declared value, with coverage up to CAD $50,000. For example, a declared value of $100 costs $2.50 in premium. If replacing the document would be slow or expensive, insurance is worth considering; read our SF insurance guide for Hong Kong shipments before you decide.
